Oh my. It seems to me that Twain was much interested in the Jews while
in Vienna...witnessing an anti-Jewish riot and writing "Concerning the
Jews." Now I have just come across a source saying, I believe, that he
was speaking at benefits for Jews in 1899--- but I cannot  find out
where, or why.  In fact, I don't see him speaking out on Jewish
questions until '05, with La Bernhardt.

Surely I need to read more than the historical /New York Times/! Any
suggestions, or pushes - in directions, off cliffs - would be
terrifically appreciated.
