The iSchool Institute, at the Faculty of Information is pleased to announce:

Digital Preservation: From Theory to Practice - a new 2-day workshop 
from the iSchool Institute coming up in Toronto and Ottawa. This course 
is a must for
archivists, librarians and other information professionals responsible 
for analyzing and deploying digital preservation programs and digital 
archives systems.

Digital preservation is applying strategies, tools and resources to 
overcome the threat of technology obsolescence and incompatibility to 
maintain the
accessibility, usability and authenticity of digital information over 
the long-term. This interactive course takes its participants from key 
concepts, file format analysis, and system requirements to practical, 
hands-on application of these concepts using the free and open-source 
Archivematica software.

Learning outcomes:
* understand digital preservation risks and strategies
* ability to analyze preservation file formats
* understand the ISO 14721 OAIS functional model and PREMIS preservation 
metadata standard

* hands-on experience moving digital objects through OAIS processes
* gain the theoretical context and practical knowledge necessary to 
analyze digital preservation projects and systems

University of British Columbia's Master of Archival Studies program and
