I ask: what *exactly* does Deacon allege?

The idea that a prominent Cambridge don could turn up for meetings at Central Office using a false name without being recognised sooner rather than later seems ludicrous, especially given that London and Cambridge are not much more than an hour apart by train (and were so 100 years ago).

Or is Pigou supposed to have worn a false beard?
