I think that when it comes to the origins of the 
accelerator principle the name of Mentor 
Bouniatian deserves to be mentioned. From the 
1920s to the very end of his life he claimed that 
Aftalion had copied his work without proper 
acknowledgement. This included the accelerator 
principle; see e.g. the bitter words of 
Bouniatian in his booklet *Mes Théories 
Economiques et Albert Aftalion* (Paris, R. Pichon 
& R. Durand-Auzias, 1966), p. 6.
