James Buchan states that Adam Smith was baptised
on 5 June, 1723, on p 12, “Adam Smith and the
pursuit of perfect liberty”, Profile Books,
London (the authoritative edition from the
original publisher; perhaps it’s a US Norton’s misprint).

I would have been very surprised if James Buchan
had stated any other date; he is a conscientious and thorough scholar.

See also the definitive biography by Ian Simpson
Ross, The Life of Adam Smith, Oxford University
Press, 1975, p 1: ‘…Adam Smith’s baptism on 5 June, 1723…’

Wikipedia is notoriously unreliable. The date ‘16 June 1723’ is spurious.
