The 2012 History of Economics Society annual conference will be held
from Friday, June 22, to noon on Monday, June 25, 2012, at Brock
University, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, in the Niagara Peninsula,
close to Niagara Falls.

Please join us and take part in the historical contemplation of economic
thought and action.

To propose a paper: Please send a title, a paper abstract (not longer
than 200 words), and the name of at least one other scholar you have
contacted to propose as a discussant, to <[log in to unmask]> by
the end of February 2012 (please note change of deadline).

To propose a session: Please send the titles and abstracts of the papers,
along with the names of at least two other scholars you have contacted
to take part in a focused session, to <[log in to unmask]> by the end
of February 2012.

Papers chosen for the conference should be submitted by May 25 to
be made available on the conference website.

The HES provides special support for up to fifteen Warren J. and
Sylvia J. Samuels Young Scholars to present papers at the conference,
by providing free registration, banquet and reception tickets, a year's
membership in the Society, and a partial subsidy for travel and
accommodation costs. If you wish to have your paper considered
for the Samuels Young Scholars program, please provide details of
the date of your last degree (or your current graduate student status)
when submitting your paper proposal to <[log in to unmask]>,
and indicate that you wish to be considered for the Samuels YS
program. A Samuels Young Scholar must be currently a PhD
candidate, or have been awarded a PhD in the 2 years preceding
the conference. The deadline for application is the end of February
2012.

The HES 2012 conference will open on the afternoon of Friday,
June 22, with a plenary session on "The Influence of Economic
Thought on Economic Policy in Canada and the USA" featuring
Craufurd Goodwin (Duke University), David Laidler (University of
Western Ontario), and Tiago Mata (Duke University), followed by
the opening-night reception. Other plenary addresses during the
conference will be given by Peter Groenewegen (University of
Sydney), Samuel Hollander (Ben Gurion University of the Negev
and University of Toronto), and Antoin Murphy (Trinity College,
Dublin), and the Presidential address by Philip Mirowski
(University of Notre Dame).

The conference banquet, on Sunday, June 24, following the
Presidential address, will be at Peller Estates Winery,
Niagara-on-the-Lake, showcasing the cuisine and wine of
the Niagara wine country.

Information on transportation, registration, accommodation (on
campus and in hotel), and area attractions will be posted shortly
on the conference website.

St. Catharines, Ontario, is conveniently near to the Toronto and
Hamilton airports in Ontario and to the Buffalo airport just
across the Niagara River in upstate New York. Niagara Airbus
provides shuttle service from all three airports. Flights to Buffalo
from within the US are usually inexpensive. St. Catharines is
close to Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake (home of the Shaw
Festival), and, slightly further afield, Stratford, Ontario (home of
the Stratford Shakespeare Festival).

I look forward to welcoming you to Brock University and St.
Catharines.
