Dear colleagues,

The Portuguese Political Economy Association is organising its second Summer School on "Political Economy of the European Peripheries". This year's theme is "The Socio-Economic (Re)Production of Peripheries: Challenges and Possibilities".

The school aims "to explore and frame the multiple connections between the economy and society's productive base, places and territories, and communities. The historical configuration of these relations may vary across national and sub-national peripheries, concentrating on differentiated problems and trajectories of vulnerability. In line with a critical geopolitical approach to development, we strive for the possibility of questioning the homogeneous account of peripheralisation by adopting an inquiring view of the relationship between peripheries and centralities. The Summer School will indeed embrace the objective of locating and analysing centralities inside peripheries and vice-versa."

The school will take place in Évora, Alentejo, in southern Portugal, from July 7 to 11th.
