Fourth Annual Conference
of the
European Society for the History of Economic Thought (ESHET)
25-27 February 2000

The fourth annual conference of the EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR THE HISTORY OF
ECONOMIC THOUGHT will be held at the University of Graz, Austria, 25-27
February 2000. The conference will have both a thematic part and an open
part. The theme will be:
"Is there progress in economics?"
Scholars who would like to attend and give a paper are asked to send a
proposal and an abstract of not more than 500 words and full details of
their affiliation by 31 August 1999, using preferably e-mail (or fax) to

A scientific committee will screen the proposals. Notice of acceptance will
be sent by 30 September 1999. The deadline for the submission of papers is
15 December 1999.
The abstracts will be included in a booklet distributed to all
participants. Information about board, lodging, fellowships, and the final
programme will be distributed in due course.

Ph.D. Seminar, 23-24 February 2000
Prior to the conference there will be a two-day seminar in which Ph.D.
students can present their work to leading experts in their field of
research, get comments and suggestions, and meet and discuss with other
postgraduates. Ph.D. students are, of course, invited to stay on for the
conference. Applications with supporting letters by their supervisors or
other appropriate scholars and a brief proposal for a seminar presentation
should be sent no later than 30 September 1999 to the above address
(keyword: "Ph.D. Seminar"). A scientific committee consisting of Harald
Hagemann, Heinz D. Kurz, Maria Cristina Marcuzzo, and Andrew Skinner will
screen the proposals and inform applicants by 31 October 1999 if they are
accepted. Postgraduates are asked to secure their own funding; however,
there might be the possibility of a small number of bursaries.
