SEARCH FOR A NEW EDITOR FOR JHET
The present editor of The Journal of the History of Economic Thought,
Professor Donald Walker, has tendered his resignation. The President of the
HES has established a search committee consisting of Malcolm Rutherford
(chair), Bradley Bateman, and Philip Mirowski. The committee is seeking
expressions of interest in the editorship of JHET from individuals or teams.
Proposals for single editorships, joint editorships, or arrangements
involving associate editors will all be considered. The editor need not be
located in North America. Given the very tight time frame some interim
arrangement may have to be made.
JHET is now published for the HES by Carfax and begining in 1998 will be
producing four issues a year.
The present editor will deal with all 1998 issues of the journal but needs
to shift editorial responsibility for the 1999 issues. The copy for the
first (March) issue of 1999 is due at CARFAX by November 12 1998. A new
editor needs to be in position to take over the materials in process and
receive new submissions no later than August 1 1998.
Carfax pays the editor an annual amount to help defray costs, but the actual
costs of operating the editor's office are greater and the Society would
hope to be able to locate the journal at an institution that is willing to
supply a modest subsidy to the operation. More information concerning the
journal and the arrangements with Carfax can be obtained from Malcolm
Rutherford at [log in to unmask] and from Donald Walker at

The normal editorial term is five years and is renewable by the executive
committee of the HES. The editor of JHET is a non-voting member of the
executive committee of the HES and is expected to report to the executive at
the winter and annual meetings, and to the membership at the annual business
meeting.
Expressions of interest should be sent to Malcolm Rutherford to be received
no later than APRIL 20 1998. At this point the expressions of interest can
be preliminary in nature and subject to further information and discussion.
