In the last few weeks, emails and the list serv have carried an invitation to
participate in an archival outreach study.

During the last days, archival staff have responded. Thank you for your
participation. Moreover, some participants have contacted me personally with
comments and insights. I am happy to receive these communications.

Nevertheless, to be a feasible study that accurately informs the profession at a
national level, more participation is necessary. Valid results, if
acquired, will be shared with the community via the list serv. Therefore,
please consider adding a submission if you haven't already. Also, don't
hesitate to forward this invitation to your colleagues and associates, to
ensure each Canadian archive is represented by one response.

Database Upgrade
I would like to extend sincere thanks to those participants who reported
irregularities with their database submissions. Due to these reports, the
database has been upgraded to allow for more complex responses. Thank you for
the constructive feedback.

If you have already completed the survey questionnaire, please accept
appreciation for your considered efforts. If you have not completed the
questionnaire, please consider doing so today at the following link:

http://intra.fims.uwo.ca/courses/mlis/697/ArchivalSurvey/survey.html

It is important that you let us know about the outreach programming performed in
your archives, and also the barriers and challenges to its success. Some
archives do not target school children in these initiatives, and that
contextual data is just as important to the study as those archives that work
with museums and school programming on a regular basis.

Our hope is that valid results of this study will lead to better, and more
widely available provision of primary sources for Canadian schoolchildren and
an increased understanding of the relevance of the archival profession to the
upcoming generation.

If you need help to complete the questionnaire, please contact us immediately.
You can email Elizabeth Simmons at [log in to unmask] or faculty supervisor Dr. Don
Spanner at [log in to unmask]

This survey will close on Friday, November 26, 2004.

Thank you for your interest and participation.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Simmons
