Joy Kirchner, Dean of Libraries for York University, is pleased to
announce that Katrina Cohen-Palacios has been appointed the new Media
Archivist with the Clara Thomas Archives and Special Collections of York
University Libraries. Her new role begins on 1 July 2019. As the Media
Archivist, Katrina will take on a leadership role in the management,
acquisition and preservation of audiovisual materials and related policy
development in collaboration with others engaged in digital preservation
work.
For the past two years Katrina has served as an adjunct archivist with
CTASC, working with archival records in a wide variety of formats,
providing reference and consultation services for various audiences, and
enhancing the metadata for approximately 175 legacy finding aids in
AtoM. She was also involved in the Home Made Visible project preserving
home movies and coordinating offsite storage for more than 6,000
audiovisual items. Katrina’s research interests include working with
Heritage Minutes as it relates to media, as well as focusing on
interrogating metadata from an inclusivity and diversity perspective.
Prior to joining us at York, Katrina worked as a media librarian for the
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and as a digitization project
coordinator for the Office of the Governing Council at the University of
Toronto, among other roles. Katrina holds the degrees of Master of
Information (Archives & Records Management) and Master of Museum Studies
from the University of Toronto, as well as Bachelor of Arts in Public
History from Concordia University.
Please join us in congratulating Katrina on her appointment to this new
and vital role in York University Libraries’ archival program.
