Dear all,
Skidelsky's approach on the issue, is certainly worth reminding:
"Something of the esoteric quality of Maynard Keynes's life is suggested
by the name itself. When spelt right it is often mispronounced Keens; when
pronounced right it is often misspelt Canes. Such are the incidental
penalties for having come from the otherwise desirable location of
Cahagnes in the Calvados district of Normandy. The name is probably
derived from the late Latin word casnus, an oak..." (1983; 2)
