The Mark Twain Archive, in accord with archival repositories nationwide,
provides access to and reference services for the use of its collections,
but ultimately, is not responsible for managing researchers’ use of
materials obtained from its sources.
The Mark Twain Archive has substantial collections of primary and secondary
sources about Mark Twain’s legacy; a portion of these materials have been
compiled by Twain scholars, and as the physical holder of these papers, the
Archive does not assume copyright and cannot grant permission to publish
from them.
All researchers sign an agreement form when using records from the Archive,
stating: “The publisher assumes all responsibility for obtaining permission
from additional copyright holders and is subject to any claims under the
Copyright Law.”
