Dear all
Completing a paper on Georges d'Avenel I was surprised by a reference given by

Some Neglected Monetary Theories of John Law
Max J. Wasserman and Frank H. Beach
The American Economic Review , Dec., 1934, Vol. 24, No. 4 (Dec., 1934), pp. 646-
657
Published by: American Economic Association Stable URL:https://www.jstor.org/stable/1808220

Wasserman and Beach included in their review of the literature :

G. D'Avenel, "Early Banking Schemes in France," Quarterly Journal of Economics, vol. 16, pp. 482-494

Wasserman-Beach paper is included in Pre-classical Economists: John Law (1671-1729) and Bernard Mandeville (1660-1733) with the same reference (I am afraid Blaug added the date but he probably deduced the date from the volume number)

I suspect the reference did not exist or is flawed.
Actually in Wasserman and Beach 1934 the reference following D'Avenel is :

A. M. Davis, "Law's System," Quarterly Journal of Economics, vol. 15, pp. 289-297

I cannot find this reference QJE volume 15 (1889) but in 1887 there are two papers :

An Historical Study of Law's System
Author(s): Andrew McFarland Davis
Source: The Quarterly Journal of Economics , Apr., 1887, Vol. 1, No. 3 (Apr., 1887), pp.
289-318
and
An Historical Study of Law's System Get access Arrow Andrew McFarland Davis The Quarterly Journal of Economics, Volume 1, Issue 4, July 1887, Pages 420–452,https://doi.org/10.2307/1879339
Published: 01 July 1887

Therefore I wonder if somebody could check (I checked through jstor and the QJE website but I could fail to find it) if this G. D'Avenel, "Early Banking Schemes in France," eventually exists or not.
Best regards
