I believe Schumpeter makes a similar point in his classic text; even  
so far as to hint that Smith, Ricardo, et al were an unfortunate  
detour before marginalism & subjectivism were "re-discovered."  I  
apologize for not having a cite for you, but I appear to have loaned  
the book to a student. (Never a wise choice!)
