date for applications is October 31, 2011. The appointment will commence
on or after February 1, 2012.

Archives Services and Collections team, the archivist will be
responsible for providing the full range of archival services to Western
Archives’ patrons, supporting the ongoing development and implementation
of the team's strategies, policies and procedures in collections
management and public service, and participating in specific initiatives

archival records.

The archivist will primarily be responsible for acquisition and

through improved control, arrangement and description of archival
holdings, as well as through selected digitization projects. The
archivist will support research using archival records conducted by
faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and members of the general
community. This will be accomplished through general reference desk
service, individual research consultations, and informal and formal
instruction sessions. The archivist will use Western’s archives
management software (Minisis) and, as appropriate, take part in
implementing new features and modules.

The archivist must have demonstrated experience with: acquisition and
appraisal of archival materials through analysis or implementation of
retention scheduling, internal transfer, and/or donor negotiation
processes; arrangement and description of personal and/or institutional
records in accordance with the Rules for Archival Description (RAD);
provision of reference and research services to patrons; and use of
archives management software.

The archivist must demonstrate initiative and possess outstanding
communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; exhibit
resourcefulness, innovation, and flexibility; be able to function
effectively independently and as a team member; be able to manage
multiple tasks and competing priorities; and be ready to work
collaboratively and collegially with archivist colleagues and other
staff within Western Archives and Western Libraries at large.

Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Archival Studies, or a
Master’s degree with an archival studies specialization, or equivalent
degree. Desirable attributes include: two to three years of professional
experience in an academic archives, with particular emphasis on research
support and instruction, as well as experience planning and implementing
digitization projects.
