Greetings all!

As many of you know, a major work on The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was published this year: the first such volume, a collection of essays by Twainian scholars edited by the prolific and ever-insightful Kent Rasmussen. Critical Insights: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer has been well received, and the editor and three contributors will be featured in Wednesday’s “The Trouble Begins at Home” from the Mark Twain House & Museum. (Wednesday, September 28th, that is – time continues its frenzied pace – at 7:00 p.m.) It’s emceed by the inimitable Jodi De Bruyne, Director of Collections. And it’s accessible from afar, as always, and free, as always, and you can register and enjoy it by going here: https://ci.ovationtix.com/35359/performance/11140329?performanceId=11140329

The three contributors participating are frequent contributors to this Forum: Kevin Mac Donnell and Barbara Schmidt, who can always be relied upon to provide accurate information here backed up by scrupulous scholarship; and Pat Ober, who is the go-to guy for medical info on M.T. and his family and era (and is similarly unfailingly scrupulous). You can read more about them all in the Mark Twain House’s blurb here: https://marktwainhouse.org/event/the-trouble-begins-with-critical-insights-the-adventures-of-tom-sawyer/

Meanwhile, my mailbox was graced this morning with the Center for Mark Twain Studies’ announcement of its Fall Trouble Begins at Eight series<https://marktwainstudies.com/events/the-trouble-begins-at-eight/>, starting with Dwayne Eutsey on Oct. 5, and continuing with Shirley Samuels, Martha Lyon and Judith Yaross Lee.

Not only did Hartford snitch the series' name from Elmira (with permission) but also the Elmira Center has been a staunch supporter of the Hartford series for years. What a rich association this has been.

Cheers,
Steve
