The 6th conference of the International Walras Association CALL FOR PAPERS

The International Diffusion of Walras?s Economics: Influence, Interpretations and Controversies

? La diffusion internationale de l??conomie de L?on Walras : rayonnement, interpr?tations et controverses ?

September 11-13, 2008
Kyoto University, Japan.

The 6th conference of the International Walras Association (AIW: Association Internationale Walras) will be held on September 11-13, 2008, at Kyoto University, Japan.
The conference aims to illuminate the diffusion process of L?on Walras?s economic theory and ideas in various countries and to examine the significance of its influence and the implications of the different interpretations and debates which arose during this process.
The following are possible topics: How Walras?s general equilibrium theory was accepted, rejected or altered in Switzerland, Italy, the United States, Britain, Germany, Sweden and Japan? In those countries, were there any theoretical or ideological controversies over Walras?s pure economic model? Why was the tradition of Walras?s pure economics stillborn in France? What was the status of Walras?s social economics in France? How have Austrian, Cambridge, Marxian and other schools interpreted Walrasian economics then and now? Are there any connections left between Walras?s own model and the use of general equilibrium theory in contemporary economics (in macromodels and/or computable equilibrium models)?
Proposals and suggestions on other aspects of Walras?s economics are also welcome.
All persons wishing to present a paper should submit an abstract of 300 words (in English or French) by January 15, 2008 to the vice-President, Kayoko MISAKI.
