Skidelsky's biography of JMK has many references to his active patronage of
the arts, both visual and performing, with keen interest in pathbreaking
contemporary stuff. Benjamin Britten was his guest while he was working on
one of his operas.

Of related interest (the other way round): Scherer's "Quarter Notes and Bank
Notes", a fine study in the economics of music composition in the 18th and
19th centuries.
