1st Announcement:

3rd International Conference of the AHEC /
III Congreso Internacional de la AHEC

The Caribbean Economic History Association (Asociación de Historia
Económica del Caribe, AHEC) and the University of the West Indies
(UWI) in Trinidad and Tobago are issuing a call for papers for the 3rd
Annual Conference of the AHEC to be held at the St. Augustine Campus
of the UWI in Trinidad and Tobago from 4th to 8th November 2015,
entitled:

 “The History of Investment in the Caribbean”

Conference papers and panels will consider the evolution of investment
in the Caribbean from the 15th century to the present; the movement of
capital flows into and out of the greater region; and the
incorporation of the Caribbean into global economies and markets over
the past centuries.

The Conference will also consider panels and papers on the flow of
investments, its sources and destinations and the impact of these
flows on the region’s economy and society, in micro and macro terms.

The AHEC invites researchers and members of the academic community
interested in participating to submit an unpublished paper under one
of the following themes:

       Systems of production – individuals and institutions as
economic agencies, free and forced systems of labour and commerce;
public and private regimes of investments and enterprises
       Production and exports of raw materials (principal lines of
production and services; plantations and other agrarian histories)
       Exploitation of raw materials and the impact on the environment
       Tourism and service sectors
       International commerce and/or other international trade networks
       Banking and financial systems in the Caribbean
       Shareholders, multi-national corporations and capital markets
       Foreign direct investment and foreign debt in the Caribbean
       Financing of colonization and/or colonial ventures in the Caribbean
       Military and defence investments and their impact on local economies
       Evolution of economic thought and theory
       Development of economic historiography

1.      The deadline for submission of paper or panel proposals is 28
February 2015. Interested participants may submit individual or panel
proposals based on of the above themes in the following format:

Individual Paper Presentations:
Name and Institutional Affiliation of Presenter
Title and Abstract of Paper Presentation (max. 100 words)
Brief CV

Panel Presentations:
Title and Abstract of Panel (max. 250 words)
Name and Institutional Affiliation of Chair and Discussant along with brief CV

For each presenter within the panel:  Name and Institutional
Affiliation; Title and Abstract of Paper Presentation (max. 100
words); Brief CV

2. Interested participants should send their proposals in Spanish or
English by email to the following three addresses:

3. Conference organizers will send by email a list of accepted
proposals and a draft of the Conference programme on 30 March 2015.

4. Registration for membership in the AHEC and for participation in
the Conference will take place from 30 March to 3 April 2015.

5. Early registration fees for professional participants are USD
$80.00 and for students, USD $40.00, valid till 30 April 2015.

6. Registration fees after 1st  May to 3rd November 2015 are USD
$120.00 for professional participants and USD $60.00 for students.

7. On-site registration fees are USD $140.00.

8. Registration fees may be paid through PayPal or by bank wire
transfer to the AHEC account (TBA).

9. Information on lodging and other local arrangements in Trinidad and
Tobago for Conference participants will be provided in forthcoming
announcements from the AHEC.
