Lest this thread get out of hand, I hope to scotch any
misunderstanding of the "Last Classical" designation.
The phrase as nothing more than a purely rhetorical device designed to
pinpoint James's monetary theoretic stance and to capture key aspects
of his debating style, strategy, and tactics. In short, "Last
Classical" is a metaphorical abstraction, neither literally true nor
strictly accurate. Instead it is an exaggeration, a deliberate
overstatement.
I thought readers would understand as much and interpret the phrase
accordingly. I could have been clearer in signaling the phrase's
intended meaning.
