Aloha,
I have a problem with Garrison Keillor as a recipient. I have only seen
him live once--when PHC was done in Honolulu--but have listened to the
show for years, and now turn the volume down for both Lake Woebegone and
Guy Noire.
Although I have never heard him actually say it, Keillor seems more and
more taken with himself as an incarnation of Twain, and taken with
himself in general.
That said, it must be difficult for the committee to select each year's
winner, as no one can come near matching the original namesake. Of the
so far unanointed, perhaps George Carlin comes closest to actually
thinking through his humor to make a point, rather than just saying
something funny. And there's always CarrotTop ...
