"Chased out" is a misleading headline. In the linked interview Coase says that they were not interested in retaining him, and that's what I heard previously (as a Buchanan-Tullock-GMU student). Coase would have stayed if they maid some effort to retain him, but they didn't- for the reasons stated in the linked interview. It would be more accurate to say that Tullock was chased out, that Nutter was dumped on, and that Buchanan left because of all that was going on.
