Is there such a thing yet as a "Mark Twain Awards" for people involved in Mark Twain research and Twain-centric books? That is, a tipping of the collective cap to individuals who have furthered Mark Twain studies, and have written or edited Mark Twain-centric books?
If not, I suggest the following annual awards:
Lifetime Achievement #1 (for a living individual)
Lifetime Achievement #2 (posthumous)
Best New Biography (published in the current year)
Best Old Biography (published prior to the current year, and not previously a winner)
Best New Book (other than bio, published in the current year)
Best New Article (published in the current year)
Best Old Book (other than bio; published prior to the current year, and not previously a winner)
Best Old Article (published prior to the current year, and not previously a winner)
Should more categories be included? What is a better word than "Old"? That firefly should be replaced with fire - or, better yet, lightning.
Where to go from here?" is another question, but maybe this can get a discussion going/some wheels turning. - B. Clay Shannon
