I think Adam Smith thought very highly of music and people in the 
musical services industry. See e.g. his sensitive discussion of 
music  in "Of the Nature of that Imitation which takes place in what 
are called The Imitative Artis", Part II, pp.187-207 (in Essays on 
Philosophical Subjects); although I believe he was unduly hard on the 
castrati (194-195).
