The archival community in London and southwestern Ontario has lost a
pioneer with the death of Ed Phelps. For over two decades Ed was in
charge of the J.J. Talman Regional Collection at The University of
Western Ontario and was instrumental in saving and collecting many
important documents relating the university and southwestern Ontario. He
also published many local historical works. The text of the obituary
notice from the London Free Press is included below.

PHELPS Suddenly on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006, Edward Charles Howard Phelps
of London in his 67th year. Dear brother of Jim Phelps and his wife
Sharon of Lindsay; David Phelps and his wife Ellie of London; Don Phelps
and his wife Sally of Vancouver, B.C. and Margaret Fenwick and her
husband Paul of Sechelt, B.C. Also lovingly remembered by his 13 nieces
and nephews and his great-nieces and great-nephew. Ed will also be
missed by Peter Adams and Elias St. Brice as well as many friends and
colleagues. Friends will be received by the family from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 p.m. on Friday at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street
South, London where the funeral service will be conducted in the chapel
on Saturday, May 6th, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Douglas H.
Ross of Wesley-Knox United Church officiating. Interment in Blackwell
Cemetery, Blackwell, Ontario. As an expression of sympathy, memorial
donations may be made to the Sarnia Historical Society, 137 Davis
Street, Sarnia, ON N7T 1A2 (Online condolences accepted at
