Some sorry news:

=====================================================

Stanley Wong passed away calmly and peacefully, surrounded
by close family, on Saturday, April 30, 2016 in Vancouver.
Born in Guangzhou, China, he was pre-deceased by his father
Lang, mother Elaine and eldest brother Frederick. He is
survived by his brothers, Alfred (Christine), Edwin
(Victoria), Ernest (Catherine) and sister, Helen (Michael)
and 4 nephews: Kevin (Thanh), Jeffrey, Douglas, Joshua, a
niece Grace and other close relatives.

Stan was committed to family – devoted to his parents and
always concerned about the wellbeing of his siblings. He
was energetic, scrupulously fair --providing companionship &
mentorship, leading by example and offering whatever help
and advice that was asked of him.

Stan loved classical music and concerts; was a keen tennis
player and avid fan; an astute shopper of high-end goods,
gourmet cook and wine connoisseur. He also enjoyed singing
and entertaining. He loved travellng, working and living
around the world. He had a gusto for life and friendship.

In his professional life, Stan was a highly accomplished
lawyer with an international reputation. He is recognized
worldwide as a leading expert in competition law and policy.
He was passionate about his work -- a natural leader, a
visionary and pioneer in his field. In September 2014,
after a rigorous global search, he was recruited to be the
founding CEO of the Competition Commission of Hong Kong.
Before that, he established his own practice providing
advice on competition law enforcement and competition policy
exclusively to governments. Highly sought after, his
counsel and expertise was sought from many competition
authorities around the globe, amongst them: Singapore,
Malaysia, Philippines, United Kingdom, European Commission,
China, Croatia, South Africa, Colombia and Canada.

In 2006, after a global search, Stan was recruited to serve
as a Member (commissioner) of the Competition Authority of
Ireland in Dublin, completing his 5-year appointment in
2011. Prior to that, he was a partner at Davis LLP in
Vancouver and Toronto.

Before entering law, Stan was an Associate Professor of
Economics at Carleton University in Ottawa and published a
seminal book on methodology. He has a B.A. in economics
from Simon Fraser University, a PhD in economics from
Cambridge University (King’s College), and an LLB law degree
from the University of Toronto.
