Folks, if Ken Burns gave you heartburn, wait until next week. A new
adaptation of Roughing it, the 4 hour miniseries will debut next Saturday,
the 16th on the Hallmark Channel. It stars, among others, James Garner as an
elderly Twain. What's that, you say? Roughing it was published in 1872 when
Twain was in his 30's? So why do we have an old Twain? From what I've been
able to find out, the plot concerns the standard Old Twain giving a speech
at his daughter's college graduation, and remembering his days on the
frontier. This speech never happened, but what's a fact or two for people
who care to send the very best. I don't get the Hallmark channel, so I'll
have to console myself with this weekend's movie on ESPN about the life and
times of Bobby Knight.
