Twain's affection for cats is clearly seen in the opening page  of
Pudd'nhead
Wilson where he describes the (deceptive) peacefulness of  Dawson's Landing
as manifested by "a well fed, well petted, and properly revered  cat" which
shows that that the home is a perfect home.
