Man is the only Patriot. He sets himself apart in his own country, under his
own flag, and sneers at the other nations, and keeps multitudinous uniformed
assassins on hand at heavy expense to grab slices of other people's
countries, and keep them from grabbing slices of his. And in the intervals
between campaigns he washes the blood of his hands and works for "the
universal brotherhood of man"- with his mouth.
- "The Lowest Animal"
...the true patriotism, the only rational patriotism, is loyalty to the
Nation ALL the time, loyalty to the Government when it deserves it.
- "The Czar's Soliloquy"
We despise all reverences and all the objects of reverence which are outside
the pale of our own list of sacred things. And yet, with strange
inconsistency, we are shocked when other people despise and defile the
things which are holy to us.
- Following the Equator
I snipped these from Barb Schmidt's Twainquotes.com, and offer them without
further comment.

Subject: Re: Boycott by International scholars???
If people outside our country want a say in how we do things, they have a
simple solution: Become an American citizen. Until/unless they do that,
their opinions about America and/or about how we do things and/or what we
do don't a damned thing to me. . .or, I'd bet, to any American who can
think half-way logically. I suspect that what I'm saying here will offend
any number of Hard-Left colleagues in this Forum. For the record, I didn't
vote for Trump. I wouldn't be caught dead voting for Trump. But, like it or
not, he's the POTUS now, and everyone wetting their pants and throwing
hissy-fits just needs to grow up and get over it.
