Position: Hallisey Fellow in Technology for Family Caregivers

Site: Toronto Rehabilitation Institute

Department: Research

Reports to: Principal Investigator

Status: Temporary Full-Time

Toronto Rehab Institute (TRI) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow interested in the difficulties faced by family caregivers. To support the effectiveness and safety of family caregivers, we are developing innovative technologies to help with bathing, toileting and moving safely around the home environment. This will enable families to support their loved ones to continue to live in their own homes rather than moving them into a nursing home or other institutional setting.

The Hallisey award will support a Post-Doctoral Fellow for a period of three years, at $50,000 per year, to assist with the development and evaluation of these technologies. The selected candidate will be expected to build toward an independent research career by applying for external funding, publishing in high-quality journals, presenting at conferences and contributing to the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.

The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary research team based at TRI, which is the largest rehabilitation centre in Canada. TRI is part of the University Health Network (UHN); UHN is a fully affiliated teaching hospital with the University of Toronto. A major strength of the program is the combination of basic science and clinical research with product design, development and commercialization. The research will take place at the unique iDAPT Rehabilitation Research facility. For more information about iDAPT and research at TRI please visit: www.idapt.com<http://www.idapt.com>.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Eligible candidates will have completed a PhD in a relevant health or engineering discipline.

* Expertise and experience in: 1) biomechanical assessment of postural balance and movement; and/or 2) design and fabrication of mechanical devices and electromechanical control systems.

* Facility in both oral and written English must be demonstrated by all applicants whose primary language is not English.

If you are interested in making your contribution at UHN send your resume and cover letter to Lois Ward [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> which should include a summary (one page) of your experience relevant to this position Please also attach a scan of your university transcripts.

POSTING WILL BE CLOSED AS SOON AS A SUITABLE CANDIDATE IS SELECTED

University Health Network thanks all applicants; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
University Health Network has a diverse workforce and is an equal opportunity employer.
Applications should be sent to Lois Ward [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
