Dear Colleagues,

The Annual General Meeting of the Toronto Area Archivists Group is on
Wednesday May 5th -- only a week and a half away!

We are presenting a very exciting guest speaker this year: Rob Bowman,
"Canada's Rock and Roll Professor". Professor Bowman is knowledgeable about
most areas of music, but his life's work has been the history of Stax/Volt
records. He won the Grammy Award in 1996 for the 47,000 word monograph he
penned to accompany a 10-CD box set that he also co-produced called, The
Complete Stax/Volt Soul Singles Volume 3: 1972-1975 (Fantasy Records). Rob
is also the author of the recently published Soulsville U.S.A.: The Story of
Stax Records (Schirmer Books), winner of the 1998 ASCAP-Deems Taylor and
ARSC Awards for Excellence in Music Research. A member of the faculty at
York University, Rob is also frequently heard on the CBC radio program,
Definitely Not the Opera.

I am sure that we will all enjoy Professor Bowman's tales and stories about
the "soul scene" and especially, we'll all look forward to hearing about the
kind of weird and wonderful records (paper ones, I mean) those crazy
musicians produce!

And if that were not enough, attendees at our AGM will enjoy a delicious
meal in a beautiful setting: the Music Room at Hart House; convivial company
with friends and colleagues; and a really brief meeting (I promise!).

All TAAG members by now should have received their invitation in the mail,
but if somehow it has gotten misplaced, or you need more information -- give
me a call. All are most welcome.
