Romance is reality for the average Twain reader, such that our puny efforts
are unlikely to be convincing when it comes to establishing
evidence-supported conclusions, such as the notion that Clemens borrowed
his stand-up delivery style, his pen-name, and even his early literary
joke, "Is He Dead?," from his erstwhile mentor, Artemus Ward.  Of course,
some might regard this as our version of "fake news" in the realm of Twain
studies, you know who you are....
