 Using historical newspaper databases, veteran researcher of Mark Twain's
career on the Mississippi River, Michael Marleau has written an essay
documenting Clemens's time on the steamboat Edward J. Gay in 1859. The
essay is an in depth look at a 60 day time period which ultimately ends in
a death for which Clemens may have been responsible.
