===================== HES POSTING ==================
I would like to point out the great educational value of Professor
Eichengreen's book. It contains, in four clear cut chapters, a consistent
history of the international monetary system, which lacks neither
information nor material for discussion. The style is neat and the economic
reasoning crystal clear, though one may not agree with its assumptions or
interpretations of reality. It makes large use of recent academic
developments in international finance, as well as clever restatements of
classic tools. Handy footnotes and a well organized glossary helps students
get familiar with the terminology. I've introduced it as required readig in
my World Economic History course, and its first results have been excellent.
