Forum Members:
Recently I presented a paper on Mark Twain (along with my husband) at the SCMLA Annual Conference in Nashville. It was the paper I was originally supposed to present at the conference in Hannibal in July; however, I broke my pelvis and had to cancel.
As I looked over the program and read all the paper titles that were being presented, I was shocked that our paper was the only one on Twain. That will be different next year. I (and my husband Dr. Delwin Richey - who teaches in our university's Communication Studies Dept.) are sponsoring a Special Session panel on Mark Twain: The Gilded Age Exposed. The theme for the 2016 SCMLA conference is "The Spectacular City: Glamour, Decadence and Celebrity in Literature and Culture," so because Mark Twain coined the term The Gilded Age, we thought papers on any of his works about any of these aspects of the theme would fit right in.
The call for papers is not "official," but I wanted all of Twain Forum members to consider submitting an abstract. The official call for papers will be after the first of the year and the conference is not until November 2016 in Dallas, Texas.
Thanks for considering this and I look forward to getting abstracts......once the official call goes out.
