As a biologist, I've come to appreciate the below referenced 
individual for what he seems, by all self-expressed evidence, to be: 
the moral and literary equivalent of a living fossil.  I can only 
hope such human artifacts have as much value to those interested in 
cultural history as they do to students of biological evolution, or 
as  Darwin called it, 'descent with modification'.  Except in this 
case, there's more descent than modification.
