This is a very good rendition of Mr. Clemens before he is known to have
written under the pseudonym of Mark Twain. It is far better than anyone
could do without a careful study of the man. There is no mustache & the
sideburns accurately reflect the period of time depicted, so attention to
detail is obvious. However, his hair & clothing is of a later period and
there isn't any tobacco in sight. The facial features & hair depict a much
older Clemens as though he were sporting a mustache and the alteration of
the traditional facial hair does not alter this effect. To me this is a
monument of a matured Clemens youthified rather than a truly youthful
Clemens piloting the old Mississippi. It is still a rather wonderful
monument, just the same!

Generically Yours,
Mr. Nit Picker (Robert Slotta)
