Thanks for reading, Dave. The “Mark Twain’s Portfolio” series is based on background research I’m doing for my larger project on Twain and political economy. I never imagined the first installment would pique the curiosity of the contemporary financial press and thus get a surprisingly large audience.

 While I obviously think there is room for further research in this field, it is not completely untapped. I would recommend, especially, the recent collection Mark Twain & Money edited by Larry Howe and Harry Wonham.
