Greetings all -- I 'm sure a review of Barbara Snedecor's Gravity: Selected Letters of Olivia Langdon Clemens, will be posted here soon but I just wanted to second, in true trumpet tones, what Susan Harris says on the back cover: "High time Livy was granted her own voice!"

The book that Barb -- the beloved and energetic director emeritus of the Elmira College Center for Mark Twain Studies -- has been working on for a decade or more is finally out. It is an extraordinary and comprehensive work, bringing this important figure into full view for a general audience -- until now you had to haul yourself somewhere to read these letters.

What's more, next week you'll have two opportunities to hear her in conversation on the book. The first is on Livy's birthday, November 27, at the Mark Twain House (virtual and in-person, but the conversation will be available on the Mark Twain House Education Department's YouTube channel soon thereafter.) The second is at the Center for Mark Twain Studies, symmetrically enough on Mark's birthday, November 30 (in-person, only, I believe, but available through the link below after the event).

I'll be Barb's fellow conversationalist in Hartford, Matt Seybold in Elmira. Details of both events are linked below, and the book will be available for purchase at both. Enjoy! -- Steve

The Mark Twain House & Museum welcomes Barbara Snedecor to the Trouble Begins stage to celebrate her new book: “Gravity: Selected Letters of Olivia Langdon Clemens.” Steve Courtney will be interviewing Barbara on the process of completing her book and on Olivia Clemens. In this new volume of letters, readers are invited to meet Olivia
