I am posting the following on behalf of Hal Holbrook (I forwarded all
the birthday messages to his assistant, who faxed them to him)


 I want to thank everyone in the Mark Twain Forum who sent me these
 wonderful birthday wishes.  I did not know that I had so many
 brothers and sisters of the heart and mind until I went to Elmira
 last summer for the Mark Twain Conference.  These good wishes have
 been a lovely gift for my 85th birthday.  Thank you everyone.  Hal
