What the article fails to mention is that the Delta Queen's sister ship, the Delta King, sits restored on the Sacramento River in Old Town Sacramento. Both ships were originally built to haul people and automobiles between Sacramento and San Francisco, one leaving down river and the other up river at 5:00 pm, passing each other about midnight amid a lot of cheering and hollering. As this was in the middle of Prohibition, the powers-that-be declared the Sacramento River to be an International Navigatible Waterway and the roulette tables and bars opened up as soon as the boats left the docks. There's an occasional Mark Twain impersonator from Reno who wanders the decks entertaining tourists with MT stories told badly, but that's about the only link.
