Hi, folks. Susan Harris here, president of the MT Circle. I've recently been contacted by an entity named Clyde Cui, asking me to guest edit a special Twain issue of a new, open access journal titled Literature, published by the MDPI group. After doing a bit of research, I turned the request down; MDPI (based in Switzerland, with offices out of Beijing), has a vast array of journals, mostly in the sciences. Apparently some of the articles they publish are very good, but they also charge authors for publishing their work and have other elements of "predatory" publishing. So while I support open access publishing, I am leery of being put in a situation where I might be exploiting young scholars.
It's likely that they will now reach out to members of the Forum, so I just wanted to post this warning. --skh
