While _Mark Twain's Letters to His Publishers_ deals extensively with
_Library of American Literature_ and much of its background -- it is
lacking on critical review of material contained in the volumes. While
_Libary_ was apparently a collection that sold well, the company did not
have the assets to keep up the production. But no mention of what works
were contained within the volumes or who the former Cincinatti publisher
may have been who also went bankrupt trying to publish it. Henry Rogers
seems to have been the only person who could afford to undertake the
project.
