As I approach the end of my recording of Albert Bigelow Paine’s “Mark Twain-A Biography”, I’m struck by how true to himself Sam was…right to the end…never giving in to fear or suddenly-discovered “faith”. 

For those few who haven’t read Paine’s biography, I commend it as a most comprehensive, first-person treatise of Sam’s life and works. It doesn’t approach the detail and analysis of the Mark Twain Project’s “Autobiography” in three volumes, but it’s a LOT more approachable and digestible (although I understand there to be some controversial material included in Paine’s work…being a NON-academic: I know nowt)
