Greetings! Just to alert you about this Wednesday's installment of "The Trouble Begins" series at the Hartford House -- Mallory Howard, Grant aficionado extraordinaire, will interview Stephen Cushman, author of The Generals' Civil War: What Their Memoirs Can Teach Us Today. Of course, the exemplary version of the genre was written by Ulysses S. himself, and we all know who his publisher was, so presumably a good deal of the conversation will have to do with that particular book.
What can these memoirs teach us? I'm curious to know, but the publishers' blurb speaks of "memory, imagination, and the writing of America's history."
This "Trouble Begins" session makes history itself -- It will be the first in-person version of the program since pre-pandemic days. Anyone in the Hartford area who would like to return to the auditorium is welcome!
But those further flung need not despair; this is a hybrid performance, and still available virtually, thanks to Trouble Begins mastermind and Director of Collections Jodi DeBruyne, who has made sure this will happen on Wednesday, June 22, at 5:30 pm Eastern Daylight Time.
You can register by going here: https://marktwainhouse.org/event/trouble-begins-at-530-with-stephen-cushman/. There are separate registration systems for in-person and virtual attendance. But it is free, free, free, as usual.
Cheers,
Steve
