The Archives of Ontario is pleased to announce an innovative and
exciting project developed by the Archives of Ontario and the Gardiner
Museum of Ceramic Art.
The Archives of Ontario has teamed up with the Gardiner Museum, Canada's
pre-eminent ceramic museum, in an initiative that will result in the
creation of ceramic art influenced and inspired by archival records.
For this project Ontario's ceramic artists are encouraged to explore the
holdings of the Archives of Ontario and archival collections across the
province. Based on this exploration, artists are asked to submit a
concept statement describing the relationship of a proposed piece of
artwork to the archival records on which it will be based.
A jury of staff from the Archives of Ontario, the Gardiner Museum and
two of Ontario's internationally renowned ceramic artists, will select 8
finalists to create ceramic tiles. The completed tiles will be
purchased by the Government of Ontario Art Collection, Archives of Ontario.
The 8 new works of art will be launched and displayed at the Gardiner
Museum and installed in the Archives of Ontario new public service facility.

Please free to print out the call for submissions for distribution in
your Ontario based archival institution or contact your local potters'
guild to participate in this project.
