YMCA CANADA ARCHIVES
Conservation Technician

The YMCA Canada Archives invites applications for a temporary position as a
Conservation Technician to conduct a physical assessment of YMCA Canada's
film collection.

As part of the Canadian YMCA's long tradition of providing social,
educational, and physical fitness programmes in Canada, the YMCA produced
films that were used for instructional and promotional purposes. These
films hold historical and research value as evidence of the YMCA's
activities and contributions in Canada. The YMCA Canada Archives currently
holds a total of 58 films that are temporarily being stored at the national
office in Toronto.

The goals of this project are to assess the physical condition of the film,
identify priorities for reformatting, and make recommendations for interim
and long-term storage.

Duties:
- collect information about film titles currently housed at YMCA
Canada
- assess the physical condition of each film
- prepare a report summarizing the findings and, in consultation with the
YMCA Archivist, make recommendations regarding storage of the collection
and priorities for reformatting.

Qualifications:
Along with an interest in film conservation, at least one year of training
is required in conservation techniques from a recognized post-secondary
institution.

Duration:
The duration of the project is one month of full-time work.

Salary:
$14.00/hour

Application Procedure:
Interested applicants should forward a resume and cover letter to:
