    It is possible that these letters refer to $$ being raised for Father
Hawley, whose Morgan Street Mission (Hartford) was often the recipient of
Twain's and Twichell's generosity.  See Paine, 540-1.  Also see Andrews,
Nook Farm 130-1; and Decker, Hartford Immigrants: A History of the Christian
Activities Council (Congregational), 1850-1980, pp. 48-9.
