Dear colleagues,

The department would enthusiastically welcome doctoral projects in the
history of economics and social science. Please let this be known to
keen students. Even if they cannot come to London they should reach
out to me.

With my best regards,
Tiago

UCL Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) is a world
leading research centre for the integrated study of history of
science, philosophy of science, science policy, and sociology of
science. The department has existed for nearly 100 years and is one of
the oldest and most respected in the United Kingdom. We have grown
rapidly over the last decade in staff and in our community of
postgraduate researchers. Currently, the department hosts 30 doctoral
research projects across a variety of fields.

Our doctoral program is a vibrant community that regularly meets in
reading groups, a work in progress seminar series, and many other
occasional initiatives. Students are able to take advantage of
networking opportunities with prominent London museums, academies and
research institutions. PhD graduates at UCL-STS have continued to
successful academic careers in the UK and overseas, while others have
taken up careers in policy, business and cultural institutions
championing science communication and engagement.

On November 27, 2-4 pm, we will be hosting an information session open
to everyone interested in our programs.

The session will explain how to apply for the MPhil/PhD program (see
also https://www.ucl.ac.uk/sts/sts-admissions/doctoral-degrees/how-apply)
and offer advice on how to secure finding (see also
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/sts/sts-admissions/doctoral-degrees/phd-programme-fees-and-funding).

The session will be introduced by the Postgraduate Research Tutor
(Tiago Mata) and the Research Director (Phyllis Illari). Participants
will hear an overview of past and present research of the department
from the heads of research clusters in history, philosophy and social
science. They will learn of the career paths of former graduates. And
they will also have the chance to talk to current PhD students about
their experience of the program.
